As much as we'd like to believe the hype, there's no shortcut to fresh beer — no matter how blue the mountains are on your bottle.
Luckily, there's no need for gimmicks at Harpoon Brewery Beer Hall, your new Bavarian-style home for beer, pretzels, and... more beer.
Anyone familiar with Harpoon's seasonal brewery fests should grasp the concept: Open the doors to the masses (up to 300 patrons), keep their glasses full with 20 varieties of fresh beer on tap. Then sit back and watch as strangers turn into drinking buddies, make toasts, and end up finding out their grandmas were childhood friends back in Germany.
OK, maybe not that last part.
But it'll be easy to get carried away at the long beer garden-style communal wooden tables -- especially if you don't slow down by munching on huge house-made pretzels made from the same malted grains used in brewing.
The beer hall is just part of Harpoon's $3.5 million brewery renovations, which include a new visitor's center and gift shop where you can fill your growler with 25 different kinds of beer with the push of a button.
No judgment if yours has a mountain painted on it.
