Slice of Heaven

The sandwich guys give the All Star treatment to pizza

If you liked what they put between slices of bread, wait 'til you see how they handle dough.

The chefs at All Star Sandwich Bar in Inman Square are taking their culinary inspiration outside the bun (and across the street) with the opening of All Star Pizza Bar tomorrow.

The premise remains the same: take bold international flavors and put them in handheld form.

Leave it to brothers/managers Kosta and Johnny Diamantopoulos to create signature pizzas like Ms. Piggy's Fig — topped with goat cheese, black mission figs, arugula and sprinked with toasted and crushed pistachio nuts.

Micro-managers can assemble their own pies (measuring a healthy 16 inches, or eight big slices) with toppings ranging from homemade meatballs to charred broccoli rabe to pickled Fresno chiles and, of course, pepperoni.

In the sport of food, that's one deep bench.
